My new song “New Way of Life” is releasing January 2nd...rootsy, mountain-born, and made for anyone stepping into a fresh start this New Year.
About the Song:
“New Way of Life” is a song I wrote about that moment when staying feels like giving up on yourself. In the story, a man walks off the mountain he grew up on with nothing but the clothes on his back, chasing a railroad track, a city—anything that might lead to a different future. He loves where he’s from, but he knows he can’t keep living the same day over and over.
I co-wrote this one with my friend Jimmy Byrge, who grew up in the mountains of East Tennessee and had to personally travel that path—leaving home behind to go find a life with more opportunity and more peace. That lived experience is all over the song.
For me, it’s also bigger than the mountains. It parallels anyone who’s ready to put things behind them that make them feel stuck...old patterns, fear, a dead end, even something as heavy as addiction, and take the first step toward change. There’s no guarantee it works out, but there’s a kind of quiet strength in finally moving forward.
Even if you never go back, you carry home with you. Sometimes the bravest thing you can say is: "ready or not, here I go...gotta find me a new way of life."
